Experience

Serhan Guner is an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Toledo, Ohio, United States. His research interests include numerical modeling of concrete structures subjected to extreme loading, shear behaviour of concrete, and analysis of deep elements, disturbed regions, retrofitted structures, pile caps and helical pile connections.

Serhan worked at Morrison Hershfield as a consulting project engineer from 2008 to 2013, bringing capabilities for advanced structural modeling and analysis of reinforced, prestressed and post-tensioned concrete structures. His project experience includes structure modeling and analysis, design for new structural components, retrofit design of existing structures, failure investigations and feasibility studies, and review of drawings and specifications. He was awarded the Carson Innovation Award for the nonlinear finite element analysis and rehabilitation design of a dynamic compressor foundation for an industrial facility

Serhan worked as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at Ryerson University in Toronto from 2013 to 2015. During this time, he was awarded a five-year Discovery Grant from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada.

Serhan is currently a member of Joint ACI-ASCE Committee 447 (Finite Element Analysis of Reinforced Concrete Structures), and ACI Committees 374 (Performance-Based Seismic Design of Concrete Buildings), 123 (Research and Current Developments), and 133 (Disaster Reconnaissance).

Serhan enjoys an active lifestyle including bicycle commuting, running and weight training, and is known for his ability to get things done.
